What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy can offer an environment in which you can express your feelings and gain a deeper insight into the issues you are facing in your life. Psychotherapy sessions are confidential. This means that you can talk about things you might not feel be able to discuss with anyone else. I will aim to help you find better ways to cope, or bring about changes in the way you think and behave to improve your mental and emotional wellbeing.
1:1 sessions last for 50 minutes. They are usually weekly to ensure that we develop a trusting rapport. If you do not feel like we develop this trusting rapport, I would be more than happy to connect you with another therapist to try. Also, if you have very particular needs that a specialist service could support better, I will connect you to this service for ongoing treatment and support.
Sometimes people want to spread sessions out and attend less frequently. This can help with managing costs or fit with their personal commitments. On occasion people want additional support in the week. This may be due to a stressful or traumatic event. All of these options are fine.
Therapy can last as long as you feel is useful. I find that periodic reviews are useful. I usually offer these every six weeks. It is useful to ensure that what we are discussing and how therapy is experienced is adding value. If not, we can change the focus.
I cannot provide support to anyone currently in therapy.
Experience & Approach
I completed my master’s degree and Post-Graduate diploma in Existential Psychotherapy in 2006. I became BACP and UKCP accredited shortly afterwards. I have more than 20 years’ experience of practicing as a psychotherapist. I have established and directed over 15 separate psychotherapy services across the UK, providing clinical oversight and supervision. I have a particular interest in addictions and addictive behaviours, including alcohol use, drug use, gambling, sex, and more.
I am also interest in supporting people with low mood, stress management issues and work-related stress. I can help people with relationship issues, including offering Couples Counselling. I can also help people explore existential issues, such as the meaning/purpose in one’s life and making decisions at pivotal points, identity issues (gender, sexuality, race etc.). I can also offer support in relation to loss and bereavement. I can support anyone aged 15 or over. Anyone under 18 will require consent from a parent or legal guardian in advance.
I do not offer in-person therapy. However, I can offer walking therapy, i.e. 1 hour walk within the Wedmore area in Somerset. If you are interested in this please contact me to discuss.
